Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Ultrasonic flow meters are non-invasive devices, commonly used to measure the velocity of acoustically conductive fluids that allow ultrasonic waves to pass through. It is promising for high-temperature applications, such as velocity measurement of molten salts. Usually, it is suggested to install an ultrasonic flow meter in the hydrodynamically fully-developed region for accurate measurements of the fluid velocity. However, this requirement may not always be strictly followed due to stipulated space constraints. In addition, several preset parameters, such as the number of sound paths and pipe roughness, affect the measurement uncertainty as well. It is therefore necessary to investigate these effects on the measurement uncertainty.

A transit-time high-temperature ultrasonic flow meter, eventually used for velocity measurement of molten fluoride salts at temperatures up to 700 °C, is initially tested in a low-temperature facility using water as the working fluid and then a high-temperature molten salt test facility.
